I photographed this 1960 Jaguar XK150 3.8-liter Fixed Head Coupe in North Scottsdale, Arizona, for a collector-car listing. Finished in white over a red interior, the Jaguar combines a flowing postwar sports-car design with chrome wire wheels, an enclosed coupe roofline, a wood instrument panel, and a manual transmission with overdrive.
The assignment required more than a group of attractive exterior photographs. A collector-car gallery also needs to document the body, chrome, glass, interior, instrumentation, mechanical components, and visible condition clearly enough for a remote buyer to evaluate the vehicle.

Photographing white paint and chrome in Scottsdale
White vehicles can be deceptively challenging to photograph in bright Arizona conditions. The paint can lose visible shape when the highlights become too bright, while the chrome bumpers, grille, window trim and wire wheels reflect large sections of the surroundings.
I photographed the Jaguar from multiple positions to preserve detail in the body while controlling reflections across the bonnet, doors and curved rear panels. The surrounding desert vegetation helped establish the North Scottsdale location, but I kept the compositions centered on the car rather than allowing the background to dominate the gallery.
The strongest exterior photographs include the complete side profile, both front three-quarter views and a rear three-quarter view. Together, these angles show the vehicle’s stance, panel relationships, trim, wheels, glass and body proportions.

Documenting the Fixed Head Coupe profile
The side-profile photograph is especially important for this vehicle because it clearly identifies the Fixed Head Coupe body style. It shows the uninterrupted roofline, rear quarter window, long bonnet and transition from the cabin into the rear fenders.
For a collector-car listing, this type of photograph is not simply decorative. A properly aligned profile view helps buyers assess ride height, wheel fitment, panel alignment and the overall shape of the body without the distortion created by an aggressive camera angle.

The red interior creates a dramatic contrast with the white exterior. I photographed the cabin from both doors and through the side opening to document the front seats, rear area, carpeting, dashboard, gauges, steering wheel, manual shifter and interior trim.
The straight-on dashboard photograph provides a clear view of the primary instruments and controls. Wider angles show how the dashboard, seating and transmission tunnel relate to one another, while closer photographs allow viewers to examine upholstery condition and visible wear.
This balance is important in collector-car photography. The images should make the cabin inviting, but they should also give prospective buyers enough information to evaluate its condition accurately.
The white exterior and red cabin create one of the car’s strongest visual contrasts.
Balancing auction documentation with portfolio photography
Photography for an online collector-car auction needs to present the vehicle attractively while accurately documenting its visible condition.
For this Jaguar XK150, I photographed the exterior panels, chrome trim, wire wheels, glass, red interior, dashboard, instrumentation, identification information, engine compartment, and undercarriage. Together, these images give prospective buyers a more complete view of the car than a small set of polished exterior photographs could.
The engine, identification plate, and mechanical photographs are particularly important for collector vehicles because specification, originality, and matching-number claims can affect how buyers evaluate them. Photographs support that evaluation, but the vehicle’s documentation and factory records should be used to verify its exact configuration.
The driver’s view combines red upholstery, a wood instrument panel, a thin-rim steering wheel and a floor-mounted manual shifter.
A late chapter in Jaguar’s original XK series
The XK150 was the final model in Jaguar’s original XK sports-car line. Jaguar introduced the larger 3.8-litre XK150 in late 1959, offering a 220 bhp standard version and a separate 265 bhp S version. The XK150 remained in production through 1960 before the arrival of the E-Type.
This particular coupe retains the defining XK150 proportions: a long front bonnet, a compact enclosed cabin and rounded rear bodywork. The Fixed Head Coupe roof gives the car a more substantial profile than the open versions while maintaining the flowing lines associated with Jaguar’s XK series.
