Generations Together: A Scottsdale Family Shoot in the Desert

One of the things I love most about family photography is seeing generations come together. Recently, I had the chance to photograph the M family in Scottsdale, Arizona. They wanted portraits that captured not just individual families, but the connection across generations

We started with generational groupings, making sure to capture the roots of the family and the joy of having multiple generations present.

Then we moved into smaller family portraits. Each family brought their own energy, which made the shoot feel dynamic and personal. The highlight for me was watching the kids just be themselves. Their playful energy added a layer of authenticity that makes the final gallery feel alive and heartfelt.

The desert gave us a perfect backdrop. Wide open skies, warm sunlight, and plenty of space for posed moments and candid interactions. From kids being tossed high into the air to quiet portraits of grandparents with their children and grandchildren, this session told a complete story of family.

Why This Matters

Family photography is about preserving more than faces. It’s about capturing stories, traditions, and the love that ties everyone together. Shoots like this remind me how meaningful it is to provide families with images that will be passed down and cherished for years.

If you’re in Scottsdale or the Phoenix area and want portraits that feel true to your family, whether it’s a small group or a big gathering, I’d love to work with you.
